How It Works

What exactly does Interview Guru do?
Interview Guru reads a job posting alongside your career profile (or resume on first sign-up), then generates a tailored interview kit — an ATS-optimized resume, a full set of behavioral interview questions with STAR-format answers drawn from your actual experience, and (on paid plans) a personalized cover letter and thank you letters. Everything is specific to the role and company, not generic templates.
What is the Career Profile?
The Career Profile is your canonical background — every role, skill, certification, and metric you've earned, stored in one place and reused for every kit. When you sign up, uploading a resume auto-builds it. From then on, every application draws from the same profile so your ATS keywords stay consistent across every kit, and nothing gets embellished or invented. You can update your profile any time on the Profile page. Kits are only as good as the profile behind them — the more complete, the stronger every application.
How does the AI know what to write?
When you paste a job URL, Interview Guru fetches the job posting and the company's website to build a profile of their mission, values, culture, and what success looks like in the role. It then cross-references that with your Career Profile — your roles, skills, bullets, and metrics — to produce documents grounded in your actual background. The AI will never invent a number that isn't in your profile, never downgrade your title to match the JD, and never claim experience you didn't document.
How long does generation take?
Usually a couple of minutes. The guru runs several passes — analyzing the job posting, cross-referencing your background, drafting the resume + interview questions in parallel, then auto-tuning the resume length so it fits the page cleanly. Speed matters, but not more than accuracy. You'll see progress updates the whole time, and the kit is only shown once every section is fully ready.
Can I edit what the AI generates?
Yes — everything is editable. You can click directly into any section to edit inline, or use the AI revision tool (Practitioner and Guru plans) to describe a change in plain English and have the guru rewrite it instantly. Your resume has additional controls for template, color, and inline field editing.
What file types does my resume need to be?
PDF only for the initial import that builds your Career Profile. This ensures consistent text extraction. If your resume is in Word or Google Docs, export it as a PDF first. After that first upload, kits are generated from your profile — you won't need to upload again unless you want to sync a new version of your resume back into your profile.

ATS & Resumes

What is ATS and why does it matter?
ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System — software that most mid-to-large companies use to screen resumes before a human ever sees them. ATS systems parse your resume and score it based on how well it matches the job description's keywords, required skills, and titles. A beautifully formatted resume can score zero if it uses the wrong terms or has complex formatting the parser can't read. Interview Guru generates resumes with clean, ATS-friendly formatting and uses keywords pulled directly from the job posting.
Will the resume pass ATS?
Interview Guru is designed specifically to produce ATS-compatible output. It uses clean structure (no tables, no text boxes, no headers/footers), incorporates exact-match keywords from the job description, and formats dates and job titles in patterns ATS systems recognize. No tool can guarantee a pass — that depends on the specific ATS and job requirements — but Interview Guru gives your resume the best structural and keyword foundation.
Can I download my resume as a PDF?
Yes, on Practitioner and Guru plans. Interview Guru generates a pixel-perfect, print-ready PDF that matches the on-screen preview exactly. Seeker (free) plan users can view and edit but not download.
Can I change the resume template or colors?
Yes — all plans include three templates (Clean, Executive, and Modern) and six accent color options. You can switch between them instantly and the resume preview updates live.

Pricing & Plans

What is the difference between the three plans?
Seeker (free): 3 lifetime interview kits, resume + interview prep only, no downloads. Practitioner ($19/mo): 15 kits/month — enough for an active job search. Includes everything in Seeker plus cover letters, thank you letters, AI revisions, and PDF downloads. Guru ($39/mo): 20 kits/month, everything in Practitioner plus AI interview coaching (record your spoken answers, get instant feedback on structure, delivery, and clarity) and a LinkedIn profile optimizer that rewrites your headline, About section, and skills for the specific role. Built for candidates who want to walk into every interview prepared.
Do unused kits roll over?
No — your kit count resets at the start of each monthly billing cycle (the same day of the month you subscribed). If you're applying in waves, time your subscription to your active search period.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel through the Billing portal (in the navbar) at any time. You keep access through the end of your billing period.
Do you offer refunds?
If something went wrong on our end, reach out to help@interviewguru.co and we'll make it right. We don't offer refunds for unused kits within a billing period, but we're reasonable humans — contact us.
Is there a free trial?
The Seeker plan is free forever with 3 lifetime kits — no credit card required. That's enough to see exactly how the product works before deciding to subscribe.

Cover Letters & Letters

How personalized are the cover letters?
Very. The cover letter is written using the company profile (mission, values, culture pulled from their website), the specific job requirements, and your actual resume content. You can also add specific details to include — a referral, a project, an anecdote. The result reads like something you wrote, not a template.
What are thank you letters for?
After an interview, a well-timed thank you note keeps you top-of-mind and signals genuine interest. Interview Guru generates one letter per recipient — recruiter, hiring manager, or team member — each tailored differently. Send within 24 hours of the interview.
Can I generate multiple thank you letters for different interviewers?
Yes — generate one at a time, selecting the recipient type (Recruiter, Hiring Manager, Team Member) each time. Each is written differently based on the relationship dynamic.

Privacy & Security

Is my resume data stored?
Yes — your resume text and Career Profile (the structured version of your background) are saved to your account so you don't need to re-upload for every kit. Both are stored securely in our database (Supabase) and are only accessible by you. We do not share or sell your data.
Does Interview Guru use my data to train AI models?
No. Your profile content and job posting are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your documents, and Anthropic does not train on API data by default. We do not use your content to train any models.
Can I delete my data?
Yes — email help@interviewguru.co and we'll delete your account and all associated data within 7 days.
